The Ecstasy of Saint Teresa,1645-1652, Gian Lorenzo Bernini
The sculpture utilizes unconventional spatial setting to display motion and emotion. The story tells of Saint Teresa’s vision of an angel stabbing her with an arrow of divine love, giving her a pleasurable pain. The sculpture is set up to look like a theater, along with another sculptures on the side to resemble an actual audience. The recreation of a spiritual experience was encouraged by Catholic thinkers, citing that it would increase the believer’s devotion.

Did you know?
The flower commonly known as the poinsettia in the United States, originally called cuitlaxochitl in the nahuatl indigenous language, is named after Joel Roberts Poinsett, the country’s first minister to Mexico. He introduced the flower to the United States for the first time in the 1820s. The plant itself is native to Mexico and Central America, where it has been used as part of Christmas celebrations since the early years of the colonial period. Before that, the plant and its flowers were used by the Mexica for medicinal purposes and as a source of red dye.

E o mundo não se acabou
Carmen Miranda

(Assis Valente)

Acreditei nessa conversa mole

Also topical. This song is called “And the world did not end”.

In 1941, Elizabeth McIntosh was a reporter for the Honolulu Star-Bulletin. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, she wrote an article chronicling her experience that day and the following week. Her editors chose not to publish it. Today the Washington Post published her article for the very first time.
